Perry Mehta is a business executive who credits his success to these principles: people are the greatest assets of a company and teamwork is the bloodline of the business.
Mehta will tell you that he is a student of leadership, gravitating towards motivational gurus like Steven Covey, Tony Robbins and Jim Collins (Good to Great), but he’s also someone who has implemented leadership strategies throughout his career and motivated colleagues to realize their full potential. For more than 23 years, he has helped to create best practices in the areas of construction, demolition, civil/environmental engineering and information technology, with a major emphasis on water/wastewater treatment, distribution and supply systems. Project budgets ranged from $50,000 to $150 million.
As co-owner and COO of Solar Water Energy, LLC, Mehta wants the world to know that SWE is the leader in solar desalination. SWE owns two patents that use solar energy to convert ocean water into fresh water, and generate energy as a secondary product. The company designs and builds on-shore and off-shore solar desalination plants to help alleviate water and energy shortages in regions throughout the world. Its first plant will purify the ground water on the campus of Mehta’s alma mater, Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT) in India, and make it totally independent of the municipal water system.
In addition to his responsibilities at SWE, Mehta is the president and CEO of FutureNetGroup, Inc., an environmental, construction and technology company that provides customized solutions for the environment and infrastructure through innovative technologies. FNG has more than 100 employees and associates in Detroit, Michigan; New Orleans, Louisiana; Washington, DC; Fort Jackson, South Carolina; and Huntsville, Alabama. True to his convictions, Mehta is constantly developing his teams and creating strategic alliances with other business leaders to accelerate FNG’s growth and viability. A third company, Future Generations Compusystems Pvt. Ltd., located in India, provides computer education to more than 10,000 children a year.
Born in India, Mehta has resided in the USA since 1988. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering at SVNIT, and a Master of Science in Environmental Engineering from the University of New Haven in Connecticut. He is serving his second term as National President, American Society of Professional Engineers.
Mehta resides in Michigan with his wife, DiPika, and two sons, and admits that when he’s not absorbing the latest motivational tome, he’s enjoying something that’s equally satisfying: movies. Even then, he finds additional concepts to use in the workplace, like in the movie, Avatar. “They raised the bar really high,” he said.
In those few words, we could tell that even the motivator was inspired.
